A hedge can be made of a variety of different shrubs and trees, ranging from conifers to holly and hawthorn hedges.
below is a list of the most common hedges we trim and the best time to do this.
Yew hedges
If possible yew hedges can be trimmed once a year during August or September to help keep them thick and healthy. You can also use as low release feed to help keep it in good health.
Privet hedges

Privet hedges love to be trimmed, the more it is trimmed the thicker it can get. it is recommended that they are trimmed at least 2 times a year from April through to September.
Laurel hedges

Laurel has large tough leaves and hedge trimmers can leave it looking untidy with damaged leaves after trimming. Once trimmed it is recommended to remove the damaged leaves with clippers. It is recommended to trim laurels June to September.
It is recommended to trim Berberis hedging after it has flowered once a year. It can be made into a very dense hedging.
Leylandii is one of the fastest growing hedges and can grow upto 3ft per year. Care needs to be take not to cut the hedging back beyond the green growth as it will leave bare patches and will not grow back. They can be cut back from April to late September. The more you trim these the thicker and denser they will grow.
